The Maker talks and not just in Captives of the Fern Queen. He talks to us too and I don’t mean a nice loving feeling. He really talks–it’s just that we don’t usually listen. I know I don’t. But the times I have heard him speak to me, Sally Byrd, are the most special and wonderful moments of my life. It’s often been during a crisis, but occasionally, I have heard him in daily life. I especially love it when he jokes with me. I like to joke and do a lot of it, so it’s part of my language–he’ll speak to you in your language. He knows it and wants to talk to you. Listen for him. Be patient with yourself and learn to listen.

Birthdays around Christmas?
I wonder if any of you have a birthday right around December 25. Mine is December 20; my oldest daughter’s is December 18; my youngest daughter’s is December 21; and my mother’s was December 13. I don’t think any of us minded–at least, I didn’t. It just added to the fun of the month. It was always “me and Jesus” when I was growing up. I think though that it would be harder if your birthday came after the 25th–kind of a let down maybe after the bigness of Christmas. This is absolute rambling on my part. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
CHRISTMAS FANTASIES
There are so many good fantasies based on Christmas. Most of them are extremely loosely based, but still they celebrate (even if they don’t know it) the birth of Jesus. My favorite is Dicken’s A Christmas Carol and my family watched it every Christmas until the children ganged up on me in rebellion. I like it because it’s fun and it does have a reference in it to Jesus and it’s very well acted—I especially like Scrooge at the end when he changes character.
Merry Christmas to all of you!
